St George

St George – the ‘Inland Fishing Capital of Queensland’ – is also a horticultural hub on the banks of the Balonne River.

Highlights

St George is the ‘Inland Fishing Capital of Queensland’. Find a spot along the Balonne Riverbank to try catching a Murray Cod or Yellowbelly, or book a tour with Sandytown River Cruises to take in the scenery and watch the pelicans, cockatoos and eagles.

Explore the Unique Egg’s gallery of extraordinary hand-carved illuminated emu eggs and sample wines, liqueurs and port on the Cotton Farm and Vineyard Tour, which runs every Thursday from May to September. The St George Heritage Tour includes a stop at the Anchorage Homestead and Heritage Centre and ends with lunch at Riversands Vineyards. Take a free one-hour Bird Watching Tour or grab a bird watching brochure from the Visitor Information Centre to spot some of the 240+ species that have been recorded in the Balonne Shire.
