Gilgandra

Heed the Coo-ee Call and discover military heritage at Gilgandra

Highlights

Spend a day exploring the rich cultural and military heritage of the Gilgandra region. Start inside the Rural Museum and Coo-ee Heritage Centre. Wander along the Windmill Walk on the banks of the Castlereagh River to find historic windmills and beautiful Aboriginal and landscape murals. When you reach the town’s CBD, you’ll spot the Coo-ee Soldier sculpture calling for recruits to enlist in WW1.

Continue the military story by watching out for the remnants of former soldier settlements on the drive to Armatree. Head across to the Tooraweenah viewing platform to view the Returned Soldier sculpture as he gazes across the Warrumbungle Range.

You’ll discover Gilgandra’s other key asset is its friendly locals when you grab a bite to eat at one of the iconic local pubs.
