Springsure is a hub for spectacular National Parks.
Surrounding town is the Minerva Hills National Park and a windy road will lead you to the mountain brow, perfect for breakfast at sunrise. There are many walking tracks and lookouts in the area and free camping is available in the Lion’s Park below the famous Virgin Rock.
Heading west from Springsure will bring you to some of the lesser known sections of Carnarvon National Park including Salvator Rosa with its majestic sandstone Spyglass and Ka Ka Mundi, where you can find a peaceful camp beside Bunbuncundoo Spring.
South of Springsure is the world-famous Carnarvon Gorge. Be sure to spend a couple of days exploring this magnificent, untouched wilderness and take a helicopter flight to appreciate the gorges and escarpments from the air.
Not to be missed is Nuga Nuga National Park, a remote camping spot on the banks of a large freshwater lake – perfect for fishing and kayaking. From summer to autumn you may be lucky enough to catch the water lillies in bloom, forming a wondrous purple carpet across corners of the lake.
