KURANDA

Village in the Rainforest

Kuranda village is an iconic tourism destination and a popular gateway to Mareeba and the Atherton Tablelands. Kuranda is surrounded by the Wet Tropics World Heritage area and offers an amazing rainforest experience through a network of interlinked walks that surround the village.

Kuranda has been Tropical North Queensland’s favourite retreat since the early 1900s. Just 27km from Cairns and at an altitude of about 330m, Kuranda’s cool mountain climate makes for an ideal escape from the heat of the coast.

Kuranda offers an amazing variety of world-renowned wildlife attractions and activities which include koalas, butterflies, native and exotic birds, kangaroos and reptiles. You can take a rainforest walk with an Aboriginal guide, travel on a riverboat, Scenic Railway or Skyrail, hold a koala, feed wallabies and even come face to face with a life size skeleton of an Allosaurus Dinosaur.

Kuranda Markets and village shopping has something for everyone. You will find locally designed and produced fashions from vibrant hand-crafted silk and cotton clothing, to exclusive jewellery and locally made Aboriginal arts and crafts. Kuranda’s excellent restaurants serve both local and international cuisine and offer an extensive range of menus. The village’s cafes and coffee shops give the town its laid-back ambience, offering tropical taste sensations to suit the most discerning taste buds.

Kuranda is a delightful mix of quirky surprises, colourful characters and natural beauty, perched at the top of a rainforest clad mountain.
