91km due east of Walgett on the Kamilaroi Highway you’ll find one of the Great Inland Way’s best kept secrets: the Burren Junction Bore Baths.
Located 100m off the highway on a sealed road, the bore baths are a popular retreat for travellers. The hot water in the baths, believed to have therapeutic properties, comes from the Great Artesian Basin and is approximately 2 million years old! Natural pressure sends the water to the surface through an artesian bore and it maintains a constant temperature of around 40o Celsius.
Imagine soaking at sunrise, at sunset, under starlight, under moonlight or (and this might be best of all) with a light rain falling on you.
The baths are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the associated dog-friendly camp ground has an amenities block with electricity, poolside showers, barbecue facilities, filtered water and a dump point.
Once you’ve finished lounging around in the pools, take the short (3km) drive into the village of Burren Junction and enjoy a cold beer and a top feed at the Junction City Hotel.
