The mighty Balonne River passes through Surat and follows the Great Inland Way south to St George before braiding into smaller rivers such as the Culgoa and Bokhara as it winds into New South Wales.
The Surat Riverside Parklands provide a serene environment in which to relax, play, discover and exercise along the River Walk while you explore the proud ANZAC history in Memorial Park or follow the Warroo History garden walk in Lions Park.
Enjoy the Balonne at Fisherman’s Park on the northern side of town, a popular free camping spot on the banks of the river. Enjoy birdwatching and bushwalking or put the tinny in for a spot of fishing. Not sure what you’re catching? Call into the Cobb & Co Changing Station where there is a 25,000 litre freshwater aquarium with all local fish represented.
